WOW! can i just say i've been there. I've been a baby MG when they barely leave and your still adjusting to having him gone, and I've been at 6 months where your finally adjusted to having him gone, and i've been at a year where it's hard to remember what he tastes like! and i've been at 18 months where you can start to see the light in the tunnel. I've been there girls! and let me tell you, it ends! holy crap there is life after waiting!!
So a little background, me and daniel dated a year before he left, and we've been best friends through it all! he has a family of 11 kids, my family is me and 2 brothers so there is a little bit of a difference. (this is relavent!) anyways when he left, i didn't want to drop him off at the MTC, i think for me personally I wouldn't be able to just shake his hand goodbye. So I decided to say goodbye the night before. Well for him coming home I decided that I got to choose the way we left, he gets to choose the way we see each other. So after forever of wondering where and when i'll be when I see him, I finally asked 4 weeks before he came home. "Daniel where do you want me? at the airport? do you want me to just wait?" well guess who managed to not answer that question. he did. and I called
him out on it. and he said " Laina you know I'm crazy in love with you. I always have been. I don't want you to be offeneded because I don't mean it in a mean way, but I don't think it is a good idea for you to be at the airport, just because I'll still be a missionary and I think my urge to attack you might overcome my conciousness. So how about you just wait in the stake presidents backyard?" my response "okay, as long as you promise it involves some attacking ;)" and I thought that was really good! because I couldn't handle a handshake and I want him to be his best and if he thinks hugging me before he is released is not missionary like then I'll go with it. AS LONG AS I GET A HUG!
So I talked to his family they invited me to the airport and i declined. but I left him with that last conversation, I was in london for the past 3 mondays so that was where we left off. super unknown of how things were going to be, if he still loved me, if anything changed so i was a little worried. and I tried SO hard not to get my hopes up. Girls 2 years is a long time. weather your in love or not, and it's either going to make you or break you. I was hoping that if and when I saw him I would at least get a hug. I didn't want a stupid handshake. but for the most part whenever I pictured in my head of him coming home I always thought yeah just a simple hug. nothing big, it's going to be weird.
Well here we go!! The day had come! October 19th! his flight was to arrive at 10:29 in the morning and he was supposed to be released at 6pm. So quite the span of him still being a missionary. I woke up early and hung a sign for when his family brings him home they will see it. His older sister Esther text me and told me they were on there way, So I booked it over to there house and put up a huge sign and decorated his whole yard with balloons. (It looked awesome!) his little sister Rachel was giving me text updates the whole time with "we're at the airport" or "it says it's arrrived!" or "he's here!!" Well by the time we finished there was probably a max of 5 minutes between when I left his house and he showed up!
So now i just had to wait (funny that's what i've been doing for the past 2 years) and I picked up my best friend Allison, so she could babysit me so I don't go crazy! (what a good friend!) and we sat at my house and watched vampire diaries. Well remember how rachel was giving me text updates? well she just quit! and she wasn't responding! it was freaking me out!! of course the worst is running through my head (like he doesnt like me blah blah blah) well finally at 5 i went to go get in the shower and get ready. p.s. all day I was having freak out moments when i would either just A- scream or B- hyperventalate! haha awesome!
So I got ready, LOOKED HOT! and it was 6 and we just had to sit and wait, Rachel wasn't text me back and finally at almost 7 she said, we're still waiting for the stake president. so i was feeling a little better! and then at about 7 she said the stake president was there! and then at around 7:40 she said "okay he's released! come over!!!" that message alone freaked me out and I told allison I wasnt going. there was no way I could go. and so text back "are you sure he wants to see me?" and she said OF COURSE!! HE CAN"T WAIT!
So I booked it up my stairs, ran around my house like a mad women making sure I looked hot, and smelt good. and i was so spacey. poor allison for putting up with me! and when I was in my room I got a message from Esther, Rachel, and his older brother Josh, all saying that I should get my butt over there and that I can't chicken out now!
So i grabbed my camera and my bag with allison behind me and I was about to yell to her "Allison! I'm glad I'm wearing my sexy underwear because I feel sexy!" (side note-I believe every girl needs a pair of sexy underwear just so they feel sexy sometimes, it totally works!) but I didn't yell that out I got to about "Allison! I'm glad I...." and I heard all at once moving and screaming surprise and he popped out from around a political sign in our yard with the BIGGEST smile on his face, so excited to see me. And he grabbed me in a HUGE hug and his whole family had hidden allover the yard and they jumped and gave us a huge group hug!
Holy cow that scared the crap out of me! I didn't even register that it was him until I was in his arms! the look on my face was no kidding jaw dropping. I looked like an idiot! So like I said, I didn't even really register that it was him until I was all cocooned in him. So I moved my head to make sure it was in fact him and no kidding we had only been hugging for 5 seconds tops and he planted one right on me, but someone had moved and it had jerked my head so this first "awesome kiss" defintely hit right on the corner of my mouth and cheek. and then I couldn't just believe what happened! and he said in my ear "I love you" wow! what more could a girl ask for a hug, kiss and an I love you in the first 5 seconds of seeing him?? wow!!!
So everyone let us loose, except he wouldn't let go of me! he just kept hugging me and I was so in shock that I just kept saying "you're home. you're home. you're home." I definitely sounded like an idiot! Well all he did was look at me and smile and then all I could do was smile. So by this time, his family is watching us, allison, my family, and my little brothers friends are all out there. and they all welcomed him home and he was so cute he wouldn't let me go, he just shook my dads hand and said "I'm still pretty crazy about your daughter!" and my dad just laughed and said, I think it's mutual between you two.
So then he let me go, and we would look at each other and then he would hug me again, and after that happening a thousand times he finally just put his arm around me! and would squeeze like every part of me, and he just kept smiling, and then he pulled me in to him and I wrapped my arms around him and looked up at him and he gave me the sweetest kiss on my forehead. and then said, really I love you. oh my gosh I was in HEAVEN!
Well it just kept getting mushier and mushier and my mom was like "jeez laina give him a little room" and I was like oh sorry! and I let go and moved away. and he said "no way! we we've had too much room between us the past 2 year and he just pulled me close. It was so cute! and then he held my hand and was like "I'm glad it's still a perfect fit!"
and meanwhile all we said was wow this is weird! and then we would hug again! well then his family was starting to head out and he sat there and put his arms around me and asked me what I was doing tomorrow ( I had to work! poop!) well then I was like call me though. Anyways he gave me one more fast kiss. and this time he hit his target! and I said "daniel you've been released not even an hour and your already stealing kisses from girls" and he said " sorry babe but I have 2 years of kisses to make up to you, so i better get a move on it." hahaha
then he was going to leave, and he pulled out his hand for a handshake. and I was like "did you really just come at me with a handshake" in a joking way and he pulled it away and was like, oh man! that was weird! woah. this is going to take some adjusting!
SO girls he's home. and my 15 minutes with him was the best 15 minutes of my life! I'm so crazy about him! I can't believe it's been 2 years without my best friend. Having him back felt like he was never gone!
Girls the last thing is, is really most of your stories won't be as good as mine. I was lucky, but me and daniel never worried about each other, I dated while he was gone but we still both knew we were going to marry each other. I've always been crazy in love with him and every boy I dated just reassured that feeling for me. And maybe you will be just as lucky as me, but really they are weird! they just spent life in a time warp!! it's weird adjusting! so keep your head up. Keep dating, and living your life, and writing. If I regret one thing it was that I should have wrote more letters, I emailed him weekly but I know he loved my letters.
and do things for YOU! if you want to kiss someone else, then do it! live your life for you! and because you want to!
